Cosmati is an intricate design style blending marble and stone, characterized by geometric patterns crafted through a fusion of mosaic and inlaid techniques. Originating from the skilled hands of the Cosmati family in Rome between the 12th and 13th Century, this method involved repurposing marble fragments from ancient structures across Italy to produce splendid floors.
